The cernunnos is an aspect of the Celtic deity that has been Christianized as Cernunnos, the Horned God. Cernunnos is called the ‘horned one’ in modern times, and is also known as the ‘Lord of the Animals’. He is depicted in art with antlers, horns, or with serpents coiled around his head. He represents fertility and is often portrayed with a female partner, the goddess Cerne. It is believed that Cernunnos is also associated with the stag, symbolizing the male principle. Other ideas about Cernunnos are that he is associated with European forest gods, and that he was considered to be the leader of the Wild Hunt.
