Fugi also has a lot of similarities to Maki, another character in the series. Both are loud-mouthed and brash, both are very observant and seem to show no emotions, and both are known to be rather rude at times. The only major difference between the two is that Maki tends to be more upbeat around Mugi (while Fugi is pretty negative), whereas Mugi is much more pessimistic and talkative with Maki (while Fugi tends to be silent).

According to Fugi and Mugi, "Fugioh" is a pun on the Japanese word for "fugitive". This ties in with the theme of their relationship, as they are both wanted men who have escaped from the law.
Fugi's character design is based on Jerry, a character in the 1980 film The Revenge of the Creature. Coincidentally, Inuyasha also has this as a character design inspiration.
