What is Chert?
I get asked a lot about chert and a lot of people think it is just made from flint and I am not going to disabuse them of that notion. The reality is that chert is actually a stone, which is mostly made from silica. It has inclusions of quartz and quartzite. In modern day chert is sometimes called flint but it does not have the same characteristics.
