I think that the reason that he changed his name was to take away from his family. The whole “Gorilla Man” thing was very important to him, but he never wanted to let his family know about it. When he changed his name to “Killer Croc” he did so so that no one would ever associate him with his family.
His father, whom he described as “a hard-ass”, was also a boxer. As a young man, he was heavily influenced by the idea of being a boxer himself. He never wanted to have anything to do with his parents, but he took after them in being a boxer.
While in the military, he married his wife, Andrea, who he described as being very strong. They were married for 24 years, but they didn’t have children.
That’s when he decided to become a wrestler in order to have something to do with the children in his life.
