Aabis is a confusing, complex character. He is the one who everyone loves, but he is also the one who everyone is confused by and doesn't understand. Although Aabis can seem to be a warm, caring person to those around him, he is also often very cold and even cruel to those around him by just being himself. This is why many people have difficulty understanding Aabis, as well as why Aabis has difficulty understanding them.
Aabis is the only character in the story who can actually get away with things like saying cruel, hurtful things to people without them being hurt by it. He knows that he is hated by most of the villagers and he expects them to hate him back. He knows that most of the villagers will never like him and he expects them to never like him. Aabis is not trying to be mean or cruel to anyone. He is just being himself, as he always has been.
Aabis is also the only character in the story who has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
