edit: I am going to go on a limb and say that if it was a legit statement by him, it would probably be because he was under the impression that the topic was about the INTJ, due to it being the type of personality that he is. I mean, why wouldn't he think it was about him when he wants to talk about the INTJ?

I think most people do this in an effort to get out of having to think anymore or be responsible for their own actions, and just float around in their own imaginary world for a while.
I have done this in the past and am still doing it now, but I don't think that's a good reason to say stuff like this.
I think I am INTJ (not as far as I can tell) but I think it's still pretty obvious to me that this guy is an ENTP. The way you describe things, he sounds like he's an ENTP.
