Raymon de Ramiere has always been a curious and creative person. He was born on the island of Guadeloupe into a family that was heavily involved in the sugar trade. His father was a mason and worked for the French government building roads and bridges. His mother was a teacher. Raymon was born with a cleft lip, and so he grew up with a slightly different appearance than the rest of his family. He learned to accept this difference early on and even made friends with the seamen who sailed to Guadeloupe to sell the sugar from his family’s plantation.
He learned to read and write at a very early age and so he spent a lot of time alone with books. He became very good at this and would spend hours reading. As he got older, his reading material became a little more difficult, but he still enjoyed it immensely. He was a voracious reader and devoured every book he could get his hands on. At one point, he even had the opportunity to travel to France to visit some libraries and bookstores.
