Sreten "Ćićo" Srećković was born in a small village of Ključ, near Tuzla, where he grew up in a family of poor Serbs who worked in the fields.
After the war, Sreten joined the Yugoslav Partisan Movement and fought with the Partisans in the battles over Belgrade.
He was wounded by an explosion and spent seven months in a hospital in Zagreb. After he got out of the hospital and returned to the front lines, he was captured by German forces and was held in a POW camp in Italy until the end of the war.
After the war, Sreten returned to the village and married, but didn't have many opportunities for work. He had some agricultural jobs but mostly worked as a laborer on construction sites and as a night watchman.
In 1950 he was hired by a stevedore company and moved to Zagreb where he worked as a stevedore, driver and then as a warehouseman until he retired.
