The Japanese psychologist Takeo Doi created the idea of "Jūgo", which is a type of personality where the dominant function is Extraverted and the auxiliary function is Introverted. Jūgo describes the personality type of the "genius" or "intellectual" who uses their extraverted thinking function to look outside of themselves for ideas and inspiration. In a survey of over 6,000 Japanese high school and university students, it was found that the Jūgo personality type was the second most common, behind the Sei personality type.
Since most people are now familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as a means to identify personality traits, it is important to note that the Jūgo and Nōffy concept was not developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and C. G. Jung respectively, but rather was a creation of the Japanese psychologist Takeo Doi in his 1964 book "The Borderland of Science and Philosophy".
