The Qingming Festival is a national holiday in China, observed in the spring season, on the fifth day of the fourth lunar month. It is also called the "Festival of the first spring flowers" (Chinese: 秋阴春节; pinyin: Qiu Yue Chun Jie). This festival celebrates the end of the winter and the start of a new season.
The date of the Qingming Festival varies with different years due to the Chinese Calendar, and is based on the astronomical dates. The midpoint between Spring Equinox and Vernal Equinox is observed as the Qingming Festival. Traditionally, it was held on 24 March, but now it is also held on 5 April or 6 April.
The festival is also celebrated in some overseas Chinese communities in North America and Europe.
