As a child, she was a competitive swimmer, and after graduating high school, she enrolled in a swim team in Mexico City. Her coach was so impressed that he gave her the nickname “Kishar.”
“My life changed when I was 16 years old and I joined a swim team,” Kishar, who is now 48, told the Times. “I was in a swimming club in my hometown, and I got the nickname ‘Kishar’ because it means ‘sea gull’ in Hebrew.”
Kishar forged a successful career in the Mexican entertainment industry. She has appeared in several telenovelas, or soap operas, and became a household name in Mexico for her portrayal of a villainous character named “María Eugenia.”
It was during the filming of one of her telenovelas that Kishar met her future husband, Juan Carlos Zuluaga. The two began dating and married in 1995. They have two children.
