I think that everyone has a natural "degree of ruthlessness." Sometimes we go through a period when we let our ruthlessness get in the way of our personal goals, but in general we can keep those tendencies under control so that we can develop our own personal goals. I think that most ISTPs go through this period when they are young, and then they learn to control their innate ruthlessness so that they can develop their personal goals.
