Connie Chatterley (née Reid) is a fictional character featured in Robert Heinlein’s science fiction novel Stranger in a Strange Land, named after the constellation Pegasus. She is commonly referred to as “Connie” by friends and family, including her husband Valentine Michael Smith, with whom she had two children. She is the first female human born on Mars, a marsupial, and a mischling — a person of mixed human and Martian descent — and is therefore considered an ally of the Martians. After her birth and possible subsequent death, she is the second human to be anointed as an official member of the Martian priesthood, which her husband eventually succeeds. Upon reaching adulthood, she is forced to choose between marriage to either Valentine or Benito Mussolini, though she chooses Benito.
