Who is Laena Velaryon?
Born in 121 AC, Laena Velaryon is the oldest child of Brynden and his wife Myra Martell. She has two younger brothers, Orys and Aegon, and a half-sister, Arianne Martell. Her mother died in childbirth when Laena was only four-years-old, and her father disappeared shortly thereafter. When they were still very young, Laena took to training with her brother Orys in combat, and taught him how to ride and hunt.
Laena grew up in the shadow of her older brother Orys, who was appointed bannerman for the King's Hand at the tender age of sixteen. He was considered to be exceptionally talented by many, but his brothers were jealous of his early success. As a result, he fell into the bad company of a knight of the Kingsguard who was rumored to be a member of the Faith Militant.
Orys became increasingly reckless and distant from his family. He once struck Laena for speaking out against him.
