History
Joe Morelli was born in Newark, New Jersey and named after Joseph Ligotti (a New Jersey-based author and teacher of creative writing). While he was growing up, his father, Joe Morelli Sr., was a convicted criminal, and died in prison when Joe was 14 years old. Joe Morelli Sr. was also a boxer and had taken a shot on Joe's mother when she was pregnant with him. Joe Morelli's mother eventually married and had seven children, one of which was named Joe Morelli Jr. When Joe Jr. was born, his father had him baptized, because "the only time he showed any interest in his kid was while he was at the gym." In high school, Joe Morelli Jr. played fullback in football and eventually became the captain of their team.
