Kuzuryuu Yuuichi: The main protagonist. He is a first-year high school student at Junior High School Five. After a childhood trauma, Yuuichi develops an extremely cold personality. Despite his coldness and apathy, Yuuichi is shown to have a strong sense of justice and a kind heart. He is also very introverted and has difficulty making friends with other people. However, he is able to develop stronger bonds with those he cares about. In the first season's final episode, Yuuichi is shown to have become much more social.
Mikawa Shinsuke: The resident introvert in the group. Shinsuke has a calm and quiet personality, but is often misunderstood by others. He has a rather deep understanding of others and is able to predict their behaviour with uncanny accuracy. He is often abused by others for his introverted nature, which he rarely complains about.
