My parents were loving and supportive during my childhood and adolescence, but they also had their own issues in the way they related to me. Although they did not abuse me (thankfully), they were rather distant compared to my siblings (who were never abused). My dad loved golf and drinking beer, while my mom was a bit more caring and motherly. They used to make me feel like they were "sick" when I was sick or had nightmares. It was like I was a bother to them. Mom used to get so angry at me when I would protest that I wasn't sick.
