He was the eldest son of the famous rock star Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5.[1] He was born on December 28, 1988 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. At the age of 15, he began producing electronic dance music under the name Deadmau5. He released his first full-length professional recording under the alias in 2005. He has since released several other recordings, including several mixtapes, and has worked alongside various other electronic music artists.
Zimmerman has cited horror movies such as The Shining, The Thing, The Exorcist, and Halloween as an influence on his work, as well as video games such as Super Mario Bros.[2] His song "Ghosts 'n' Stuff", from his debut album In Return, was featured in the 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.[3] His song "I Remember" from his debut album In Return was featured in the 2012 film Tron: Legacy.[4]
In 2009, Zimmerman started another persona named "Coygoyte", a play on words for "coyote", a regional name for a coyote in Southern Ontario.
