The Neolithic Age is the era in which agriculture was first developed, and it was marked by the development of the first settled communities and cultivation of crops. Neolithic communities had settled and domesticated animals such as goats, sheep and pigs, and food production had become increasingly intensive. It was in this age that the first towns and villages appeared, and the world population began a steady growth.

In the Neolithic Age, the world population numbered about six million, and it increased to about twelve million at the end of the Bronze Age. The population growth during the Neolithic Age was due to better food production, as a result of agricultural technology, and greater control over natural resources such as water and wood.

The Bronze Age is the first major stage in human technological development. It is preceded by the Neolithic Age and followed by the Iron Age. In this stage, the agricultural technology was improved and bronze was used as a metal to produce tools, weapons and decorations. The use of bronze spread throughout the Mediterranean region and even to Eastern Europe.

The Iron Age is marked by the use of iron as an effective material in farming, construction, transport and warfare.
