A little more than a month ago, I found myself in an ER, collapsing from cardiac arrest. My husband and I were having dinner at a restaurant nearby. I wasn’t feeling well and we went to the doctor, just to be safe. The doctor took my blood pressure, which was elevated, then asked if I wanted to go to the hospital. I said no, and she immediately called 911.
Within minutes, paramedics were at our table and we were on our way to the hospital. I was put on a roller-coaster of medications and tests. At one point, it looked like I would be admitted to the hospital, but no one told me what was going on. It was pretty scary to not know what was happening with me.
Once I was admitted, I drew a lot of attention from the staff and other patients. I didn’t feel like a patient; I felt like a celebrity. They were asking for me all the time, even when I wasn’t there! It was very overwhelming on the emotional side of things, but it was also very confusing on the medical side.
