She is a woman of conviction, and her life has been one of many roles, including wife, mother, university professor and humanitarian worker. Despite these multifaceted roles, she shows both humility and grace in her memoir.
Upon the death of her husband, Soucie and her daughters moved to the UK to be closer to her late husband's family. Shortly after arriving, Soucie did not feel comfortable being in the company of the church community that was living with the family. She writes about how she is a very private person, and how it was important for her to feel part of the family. After a few months in the UK, Soucie had a change of heart about being with the church community. She recalls how she had been having frequent dreams about her late husband, and she couldn't understand why. She made the decision to return to the US (when her daughter was only 14) because she felt that she needed to be able to move on.
When Soucie returned, she took up residence in a small town on Martha's Vineyard called Chilmark where she has lived ever since.
