The island of Iceland has a relatively small population, numbering just over 300,000, but it’s also one of the more extreme examples of the city-dwelling INFP personality type. According to the Icelandic Institute of Psychology, the INFP personality type is found in 30 percent of Icelandic people.
In a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania, researchers found that the INFP personality type was even more common in Iceland than it is in the U.S.
The Icelandic Institute of Psychology attributes this to the large amount of open spaces and natural beauty in their country. “People who live in cities are used to being in small rooms and crowded places,” says psychologist Olga Gudmundsdottir. “So for them it’s easier to be alone and to get out of the house to stay active.”
In the same study, researchers also noted that the INFP personality type tends to be more open-minded than other types. This is probably due to the fact that they’re used to thinking in abstract ways, and have a natural inclination to explore their surroundings and surroundings.
