Jormungandr is the son of Loki and Laufey from Norse mythology. Jormungandr has a number of names, including "Naget" or "Nagoth" (meaning "whale"), "Fenrir", "Hati", and "Garm" ("wolf"). In the Prose Edda, Garm is the name of an underworld guard dog, who guards the entrance to the realm of Hel, and is said to be the son of Garmr ("Garm" is a bit of a misnomer; Garmr is not the same as the wolf Garmr who guards Hel).
Jormungandr's role in Norse mythology is of a monster that lies coiled at the bottom of the ocean. It is said to have three heads: one at each end of the world and one in the middle. The middle head is that of a dog. As during Ragnarök, Jormungandr will emerge to attack the gods and burn them (or their homes) to ashes. He will explore Midgard, causing destruction to all it encounters.
