Cristóbal Montalbán (1887-1942) was the first Mexican actor to become a genuine international star. He was born in a small town in Mexico known as Xalapa. His parents were poor. He worked as a bricklayer and brick maker before becoming a theater actor on the vaudeville stage. His first performance was in 1895. He married in 1906 and had four children. He married a second time in 1930. The second marriage was to his third wife, and the union lasted for 50 years until his death in 1942. The marriage is described as “a happy one for many years”.
Cristóbal Montalbán is best known for his role in “The Three Amigos”. This was an extremely popular film made by MGM in 1936.
