Qatayef is a village in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, on the southern slope of Mount Gilboa. It is located between Beitunia and Beitunia Junction. In 2005, it had a population of 7,625.
The village was founded in 1948 by Israeli Jews who came from Jaffa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The Israeli government promoted the village as a development town, offering new roads and better infrastructure. It was initially called "Gilboa," but because it was located near Mount Gilboa, it was renamed "Qatayef". The name is believed to be derived from the Aramaic word "Qatayyif," meaning "the upper ones".
There are four schools in the village: Qatayef Elementary School (grades 1 through 6), Ziv Gymnasium (grades 7 through 12), and two community schools (grades 1 through 5). There are also two kindergartens in the village.
