It has been said that Deryck Whibley, the singer and guitarist of Glassjaw, is as intelligent as Einstein. However, he was not always as intelligent as he is now. He was very socially awkward in school, and wasn’t really a good student. He had to work really hard to get good grades, and he never got along with his teachers.
Even though Glassjaw is an extremely talented band, I bet that Deryck would have been a total loser in school. He probably would have been teased for being a bad student, and for being a weirdo.
I have a lot of respect for Deryck because he took a chance on Glassjaw. The music business is brutal, and the odds are against bands like Glassjaw. However, Deryck is an outcast with a gift for music, and I think his life is pretty awesome.
