Bernard's first job after school was as a life guard, and he spent two years as a youth pastor before starting a career in education. He then spent a decade as a local television news anchor and reporter before going on to become a programmer for a national television station for 12 years.
Bernard then took several years off to raise his two children, before deciding to return to the field that started his career, TV news.
He now works as the morning anchor for WILK (1230-AM) in Wilkes-Barre, PA, which is owned by Scranton's NBC affiliate NBC 10 (WNEP).
Bernard's work at WILK has earned him an award for Best News Anchor in the Northeastern Region, and he has also received the Keystone Press Award for Best News Anchor in Pennsylvania. He has also received three Emmys.
