Just because they don't want to be seen as someone shy or socially awkward, doesn't mean they're not. Heck, if they wanted to be seen as that, they would have just acted like a jerk in school instead of being "submissive" and "shy" (which they're neither).
Some people might think that this personality type is bad or undesirable, but I think that it's actually quite a beautiful one. Many people may see ISFJs as submissive and shy, but I see them as not really wanting attention, but just not really wanting to be seen as someone who is confident in themselves. In fact, I've met many ISFJs who are super confident that they are, and I've met many ISFJs who are super confident that they aren't, so it's really just a matter of preference.
ISFJs are often seen as shy and good at keeping secrets, but it's these same traits that make them great mediators.
