The Narrator personality type is ENFJ, the first of two tertiary personality types. The four tertiary types are characterized by the extent to which they are drawn towards the introverted or extraverted functions. ENFJ's are Tertiary Extraverted Intuitive Feeling (Te-Fi), and their dominant function is Extraverted Feeling (Fe). As you can see from the image above, Te-Fi characters may be described as warm and accommodating, but in their own quiet way. They are the big-hearted, big-picture thinkers of the world and have a strong need for social connection.
The Narrator is in a sense a character type who has taken over the narrative of a story and become the central focus, protagonist, or antagonist. This happens sometimes when the protagonist becomes selfish and self-centered, or when there is a whole host of characters to choose from, and the Narrator is in the mood to step up and tell their story, or the story of someone else entirely. When we talk about the Narrator in a novel, it is sometimes interesting to think of them as the character who narrates someone else's story and is sometimes that person, but normally it is someone else all together.
