The last time I went into a store (and I’m talking about a big box store, not a local store) a salesperson said to me, “You’re such a nice girl.” And I thought, “I’m a nice girl. This guy has no way of knowing that.”
Another day, I ate at a fast food place and the cashier said, “You’re such a pretty girl.” I thought, “I know I am. I just have no idea how someone can tell just by looking at me.”
A coworker told me that my eyes were the prettiest he’d ever seen. He said that my hair was beautiful, too. He said he could tell just by looking at me that I was a beautiful person. He meant it as a compliment.
I don’t want to be pretty, I want to be smart and kind and sensitive and sensitive and sensitive.
