Eurylochus was the son of Andraemon and Eurytimache, the daughter of Teuthras. He was a friend of Heracles and one of his twelve Argonauts. He was skilled in archery.
In the Odyssey, Odysseus describes him as "a man of swiftness, clever and resourceful, generous ... Also he has much food and drink that he keeps in his palace."
Eurylochus was one of the Argonauts who helped Heracles. Heracles was imprisoned in a cave by the wife of King Eurytus of Oechalia. Eurylochus and his comrades Heracles' son Iolaus, saved Heracles from the cave. They entered the cave through a secret entrance in the roof, which was closed up by Eurytus' wife. The women threw stones at them from above, but they were able to escape through the entrance. They killed the guards on duty in the inner chamber, and then escaped by climbing over the wall of the outer chamber.
