In the case of INFPs, introverts can be misidentified as "extroverts" or "extraverts" because they tend to be more talkative and more social than introverts. They can also be misidentified as being too shy. I learned this the hard way. I am an INFJ, and my friends and family often mistaken me for being extroverted and social and outgoing. I am actually pretty shy and reserved, but I've learned to fake it to get along in most social situations.
INFJs feel a strong inner desire to be intimate with people, in both a close and distant way. As introverts, INFJs need to spend time alone in order to recharge and recharge their batteries. But as extroverts, INFJs feel an intense need to connect with people. They feel a deep inner craving for human connection, often at the expense of their own needs and desires. They feel like a person who needs to be in touch with others. Their needs can drive them into a state of dependency that can lead to abusive behavior.
