In the meantime, Komako's mother was the only member of her family to go on living. Her older brother had died when she was very young, and her two younger brothers had both died in their twenties - one in a car accident, and the other in a bar fight. Komako's mother was alone and very lonely when she died, but she had been taken care of by Komako for many years. She had been fighting a serious illness for many years, and Komako had felt like he needed to keep her alive. When she passed away, Komako felt like he had lost a second mother.
