Naoe is a Japanese professional wrestler currently working for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), where he is the second longest reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion in history. Naoe is a two-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and completed his second reign on October 9, 2018, at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in Tokyo Dome, making him the first Japanese wrestler to hold both titles simultaneously. He is also a former three-time NEVER Openweight Champion, making him the youngest wrestler to win that title at the age of 23.
Naoe was born in Uchihara, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan on April 18, 1990. His father is a Shinto priest and his mother is Catholic; he was raised in both religions. He considers the latter to be his "roots".
Before becoming a professional wrestler, Naoe worked as an assistant-director for the television show "Yamato Nadeshiko" on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).
