I think the evidence is pretty clear that I gravitate toward more “intellectual” things. I’m happiest when I’m reading, thinking, or writing about something that involves abstract or esoteric ideas. I find it easier to get my head around a complex idea than a simple one.
I’ve been aware of this from a very early age. I always loved reading about history and politics. I loved the way history books felt like they were written by someone else far older than me. I loved how history seemed so clearly written in the past tense, as if the events had already happened and everyone involved was dead. I loved the idea of being able to read a book about something that had happened a thousand years ago and know exactly what happened.
I loved reading about logic and reason and how things worked. I loved reading about how the world worked. It was a very satisfying feeling to be able to come up with a solution to a problem and know that it would work.
My father loved to tell stories about his days playing Dungeons and Dragons, which I loved hearing him tell.
