The ISTP described here is an analogizer and perceives things as a whole. For example, he sees a situation as a whole to begin with, and then makes sense out of the pieces. That is, he puts together what he sees as pieces. This gives him an initial vista to look at the problem and how to deal with it. He may even see the solution before he finishes his analysis.
An ISTP might tell you to look at the facts and then figure out the facts about your problem. You can't do that since facts are facts. You can't manipulate facts. You can only see them. You look at them and try to make sense of them. If you don't make sense of them, you might as well be talking to yourself.
