The book was made into a movie in 1914. It starred Maurice Bertram as Gilbert Blythe and Ruth Gillette as Isabel Gracedew. The movie adaptation was not very popular and did not receive a wide release. It only played in a few cities in America for a short time. The movie was later re-released in 1932, but this time it was a success, and it released in many different cities, including New York City.
