Ledge personality type is ISTP, so he has no problem with the idea of being alone. He is used to it.
But, he gets drawn in to being around others, and he finds the company of others to be very soothing. He gets that from his mother, who is an introvert, and who doesn't have a very close circle of close friends. This includes friends of his father, whom he doesn't get along with. His father is ESTJ which makes him more extroverted than his son.
Also, ISTP's desire to be alone is moderated by their interest in the world outside. So, while they might not be happy being alone, they are more interested in having a physical relationship with a partner, rather than just a social relationship.
I've always thought ISTP's were the least likely couples to get married because they don't want the commitment. They are more interested in just having a physical relationship and not getting too attached to their partners. But, I'm sure there are exceptions.
