Cloudcore personality type is ESFP, and my first job in the company was as an ESFP.
At the time, I was a big fan of the film Back to the Future, and I had this idea that I would go back in time and meet the ESFPs who invented the Internet.
I told my managers this, and they laughed at me. They said there was no way I could possibly have done what I said I’d do, because back in the 1980s, there were fewer than 300 ESFPs working at Sun.
Things change, though. Today, there are more than 14,000 ESFPs working at Sun, and there are plenty of them who can still be found writing software for a living.
For me, the lesson is clear: Even though no one can predict what our future will bring, we can still make sure our company is prepared for what’s next.
Much of Sun’s success is tied to the fact that it takes such a long-term view. Yes, we’re constantly looking for new opportunities in new markets. We’re always trying to improve and innovate.
