Jack Crowley personality type is ISTP, so I’m very familiar with the whole ISTP. We’re both very straightforward, and we both have a very hard time lying to ourselves, which is a huge thing for us. So when I started writing this, I had to do a lot of research into what it meant to be an ISTP. I didn’t have that in my head, so I kept reading about it and taking notes.
So I was reading this article on the ISTP personality type, and the main point that really stuck out to me was that they don’t lie because they don’t feel like they have any reason to. It doesn’t really bother them, so they don’t really feel like there’s a reason to. And then there’s this idea that an ISTP can just tell the truth without having to lie, and that was really interesting to me. I thought, “That’s exactly what I want to do!”
I think one of the most helpful things is that you have to know your character before you start writing, but I also think that you have to know your characters before you know yourself.
