The introverted and intuitive functions are distinctly different in function than the other types. The introverted functions are reserved for more private and significant matters, whereas the intuitive functions are more receptive and flexible. The intuitive functions are also the most rare in the world, making up only 0.2% of the population according to Jung's typology. INTJs are extremely rare, occurring in 0.2% of the population, whereas INTJ individuals are even more rare.

INTJs are generally very private, preferring to get to the bottom of things rather than rush to conclusions or jump to conclusions without thorough preparation. They can be very methodical and logical, but they do not like being rushed. They like to take time to read through options and to really understand all sides of a situation before making any decisions. This trait has led many INTJs into careers in science, technology, engineering, math, and finance.
