I’ve been a fan of the BTK case since the day it happened. Back then, I was a senior at the University of Kansas and immersed in the world of criminal justice. I was working as a research assistant with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory and as a student case-worker with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Together, we analyzed and compared the evidence to try and figure out who the killer was. BTK was our prime suspect.
The case didn’t end on a high note, either: A few months after the BTK murders began, Dennis Rader, a Wichita municipal police officer and father of five, was arrested. He would eventually plead guilty to 10 murders and would serve 10 life sentences in prison. It’s been over 30 years since Rader’s arrest, and BTK still remains at large.
I am an ISTJ, so it’s no surprise that I would be interested in learning more about this case. It's interesting that we share many of the same interests, and that we both work in the field of criminal justice.
