She attended many lectures at Tehran University as a student, but soon became interested in law and started working as a law clerk. After finishing her law studies, she practiced law for several years.

However, Shirin quickly became disillusioned with the corruption of Iran’s legal system which she felt was not giving power to the people. She then became involved in the Islamic Revolution of 1979, which overthrew the Shah of Iran and established an Islamic Republic.
