When the player first meets him, Miles is in a relationship with his college girlfriend Emma, who is also an ENFP. The two are shown to be very close and share "a lot fun together", but their relationship takes a turn when Emma expresses she is pregnant. At Emma's request, Miles goes to meet a famous obstetrician to get advice about what to do. The doctor claims that there is no reason Miles should not have a child; however, Miles finds it hard to accept the idea. Shortly thereafter, Emma dies in a car crash. Miles blames himself for pushing her into a risky situation and for her death.
Miles's mother died when he was young, and his father became an alcoholic and abusive: as a child, Miles often sought out his father's company and affection, but his father would beat him for it. His father died of liver failure after drinking alcohol for several years.
