While waiting, Hammer saw a couple come out of a restaurant and go to their car. The woman had a bouquet of flowers in her hand. Just as they were about to get in the car, the woman opened up her arms and hugged her partner. The man's face lit up. The woman was crying and they drove off. Hammer said that the crying and hugging was what he wanted for his own future.
After that night, Hammer never wanted to write a song that didn't have a romantic theme.

Jan Hammer (born 17 April 1948) is a Czech-American musician, composer and record producer. He first gained his most visible audience while playing keyboards with the Mahavishnu Orchestra in the early 1970s, as well as his film scores for television and film, including “Miami Vice Theme” and “Crockett's Theme” from the 1980s television program, Miami Vice. He has continued to work as both a musical performer and producer.
