Jenny and her sister are the daughters of a single mother who is a talented artist. As kids they were very close, both having been bullied by the other's older brother. Jenny was born with a cleft lip, and was bullied by her older brother as well as by her classmates. While her brother was in boarding school, Jenny's mother started a secretarial business, and Jenny would do clerical work for her mother after school and on weekends.
Jenny's mother got into an accident and died when Jenny was 16. Jenny graduated from high school at age 16, after working part time to support herself and her mother. Jenny moved out of her mother's house at the age of 17 and moved into a cheap apartment in the city. Her sister had moved away by this time and Jenny was very lonely. She found it hard to make friends because she didn't fit in with her peers. After two years she moved to a nicer apartment but still she couldn't make friends. Finally she asked a security guard to find her some friends.

Her greatest success, "Porque te vas" (Because you are leaving), written by José Luis Perales, became an international hit when the song was used in Carlos Saura's 1976 film Cría Cuervos (Raise Ravens). In Austria it reached number 13, in Switzerland number 4, and in Germany reached number 1.
