Mike Schmidt personality type is ISTP, but it’s one that is often concealed by his laid-back demeanor. I’ve known Schmidt for many years, but we met only once before this book. Like his playing partner, Keith Hernandez, he is a quiet guy who is very much in control of his emotions. He’s very measured in his demeanor and often speaks in a whisper. Schmidt does not have a strong physical presence, though he has broad shoulders and is built like a brick house.
I attended one of his charity softball games at a local park, and he was the life of the party. The entire time I was there, I watched him laugh and joke with everyone from the kids on the team to the parents in the bleachers to the media covering the game. I couldn’t help but wonder why Schmidt didn’t have a smile on his face at all times. He seemed real happy, but he wasn’t smiling too much. I put this down to his quiet nature and considered it a bit of an anomaly for him. I imagined that he probably prided himself on being so reserved that he hardly ever smiled.
