“I’m not sure why I created the Veena archetype,” Raj explained. “I do think there is a lot of truth to it. I have always been very curious, and I like to understand things. I like to learn, and I’m very intellectual. But there is also a part of me that is very intuitive, and I am a very big world-builder. When I was writing the story, I wanted to create a character who could be in two places at the same time.
“One of the things that I wanted to explore in terms of the character was the idea that Veena is not a typical woman. The way I describe her is that she is a Venusian woman who has incarnated as a woman. Because Venusian women tend to be more sensual and earth-oriented, they often don’t feel as comfortable in a traditionally feminine role. So, in some ways, Veena resists being typecast as a woman.
