"I am a history buff," Murphy said. "I am a history buff with a professional focus. I'm an artist, but I'm also a curator."
After receiving his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1997, Murphy started working at the VA medical center in Charlottesville, where he eventually became chief of staff. He held that position for more than 10 years.
"The VA is a piece of what's going on in our state," Murphy said.
