I've been on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator since I was a teenager. The MBTI is a personality test based on Jung's theory of psychological types, which he believed to be based on the functions of the brain. Jung believed that each person has one dominant function and two other less prominent functions. We all have two of these four functions, but are either strong in one or another of them, or we are weak in all.
Jung's MBTI is based on this theory, and also includes the four temperaments: extroverted, introverted, sensing, and intuition. The four temperaments are defined as follows:
An extrovert (E) is one who values action, the outer world, and people in it. They are outgoing and assertive. Nowadays the word "extrovert" is often used to describe someone who is more outgoing than the average person.
An introvert (I) is one who values the inner world of thought. They tend to be more concerned with things that are internal to them, such as ideas and possibilities.
